01 / Who we are

Environmental care,
rooted in everyday life.

Warshin Association for Environmental Protection is an independent, nonprofit civil society organization working in Northeast Syria. Our activities are rooted in Al-Hasakah Governorate, including Qamishli and the surrounding villages and communities.

The association’s reports describe a practical approach: growing saplings at its nursery, joining community planting and cleaning campaigns, involving schools in environmental activities, and creating opportunities to discuss the responsible use of natural resources.

The same concern connects these activities: the environment is part of daily life, from a schoolyard or neighbourhood park to farmland and the region’s dams. Caring for it calls for both hands-on work and informed participation.

02 / Mission & vision

Protecting natural resources.
Making environmental care a shared practice.

Our mission

To raise awareness of environmental issues and protect natural resources, animals and the environments on which they depend. We put that mission into practice through nursery cultivation, local greening, environmental education and cooperation with communities and organizations.

Our vision

Communities in Northeast Syria where green spaces are cared for, natural resources are used responsibly, and children and adults can participate in protecting their surroundings. This vision guides our work; it is an ambition for the future, rather than a claim that these conditions have already been achieved.

03 / Our values

Principles that shape the work.

01

Sustainability

Care extends beyond the planting day. Nursery cultivation, water-aware practices and the continued attention of communities shape how we approach environmental work.

02

Community participation

Schools, residents and volunteers take part in the activities described in our records. Participation links shared spaces with the people who use and care for them.

03

Environmental responsibility

Learning about waste, crop fires, trees and local ecosystems helps bring responsibility for the environment into everyday decisions.

04

Collaboration

We work alongside local communities and organizations. Joint campaigns are described as shared activities, with Warshin’s role distinguished from the work of other participants.

05

Transparency

We distinguish recorded activities from measured outcomes, and nursery saplings from trees planted. Project figures need a clear source and scope.

04 / Our story

From local initiative
to continued environmental action.

Our history brings together the association’s legal milestones and examples of the work documented in its activity records.

2019

A local beginning

Warshin was founded as an independent environmental civil society organization. The founding year is confirmed by the association.

2022

Local licensing and practical work

The local license was accepted after the application submitted in 2021. In 2022, the association established a nursery and farm in the Qamishli countryside, with a well and drip-irrigation network, and took part in planting, school and cleaning activities.

2023

Registration in Germany

Warshin was registered in Bochum, Germany as Warshin e.V. The same year’s activity records describe community planting, crop-fire awareness, environmental dialogue and fish-release initiatives in the Jazira region.

2024

Nursery care and community awareness

Activity records describe continued nursery cultivation, school and neighbourhood greening, and waste-management awareness activities in cooperation with IMPACT.

2026

Practical agricultural learning

A project account describes cooperation with GIZ on conservation and sustainable farming at the nursery, demonstration plots and awareness sessions for farmers in Qamishli.

05 / Where we work

Qamishli and
the communities around it.

Al-Hasakah Governorate

Qamishli

Surrounding communities

Our main operational area is Al-Hasakah Governorate in Northeast Syria. Reports describe activities in Qamishli, its western and northwestern countryside, and locations including Amuda, Tal Shair, Taalak, Kudu and Kutia.

The association also has a registered presence in Bochum, Germany. Its German address is Weststr. 42, 44866 Bochum. The fieldwork described here remains grounded in the communities and environments of Northeast Syria.

06 / Cultivation & community

A nursery connected
to life beyond its gates.

The nursery is a practical foundation for the association’s greening work. The 2022 records describe the cultivation of forest and fruit-tree saplings, including cypress, pine, olive, mulberry and pomegranate, with drip irrigation used for watering.

Outside the nursery, the reports describe schoolyard planting, neighbourhood green spaces, village activities, environmental cleaning and awareness discussions. These different settings connect cultivation with learning and shared responsibility.

07 / People & responsibility

Our organizational
structure and team.

Warshin’s approved organizational chart identifies a Board of Directors, an Executive Director, operational and nursery management, monitoring and evaluation, financial management and a volunteer network.
